Job Description

Mechanical Solutions, LLC (MSI) and UPS are seeking a Sales Engineer to convert customer equipment challenges into well-scoped technical solutions and executable proposals. The Sales Engineer combines customer discovery, engineering judgment, estimate development, and sales follow-through, supporting established MSI customers and new opportunities introduced through the UPS network. The position partners with MSI technical departments, UPS sales, and project delivery teams to ensure that every proposal is technically credible, commercially sound, and ready for execution.

Key Responsibilities:

Technical Sales and Discovery

• Engage customers and UPS account teams to understand equipment history, symptoms, operating conditions, urgency, and the decision process.
• Identify appropriate MSI capabilities, such as vibration and rotor dynamic analysis, field testing, troubleshooting, design analysis, and advanced diagnostics; connect related UPS field services when relevant.
• Coordinate with subject matter experts to develop a practical approach and identify information, access, instrumentation, or testing needed to perform the work.
• Participate in customer meetings, site visits, presentations, and technical discussions; explain recommendations without overclaiming results.

Scoping and Proposals

• Prepare or coordinate technical scopes, deliverables, schedules, assumptions, exclusions, labor and equipment estimates, and supporting proposal content.
• Obtain technical and operations review of unusual methods, resource needs, delivery dates, and risk before committing to customers.
• Work with the director on pricing and margin recommendations, approval routing, proposal revisions, and negotiations.
• Maintain proposal and opportunity status in agreed systems and hand off accepted work to project delivery with a clear record of commitments.

Customer and Commercial Follow-Through

• Follow up on proposals, document customer feedback and win-loss reasons, and help develop repeat work and broader account plans.
• Coordinate with VibVue Product Management when camera-based diagnostics or recurring analysis fits the application.
• Provide technical input for sales materials, case studies, and training of UPS account teams.

Preferred Background:

• Experience with pumps, compressors, turbines, motors, gearboxes, or other rotating equipment.
• Familiarity with vibration testing, instrumentation, reliability engineering, or machinery troubleshooting.
• Experience with engineering consulting or high-mix project-based services.
• Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent applied experience.
• Experience in technical sales, applications engineering, project engineering, or field services for industrial equipment.
• Ability to translate a technical problem into a scoped, costed proposal and communicate clearly with customers and internal specialists.
• Comfort working with estimates, spreadsheets, CRM or quote logs, and multiple simultaneous customer requests.
• Willingness to travel to customer facilities, including industrial sites.

• Timely, complete, and technically credible proposals with appropriate delivery review.
• Growth in qualified opportunities, proposal conversion, bookings, and repeat customer work.
• Accurate opportunity and handoff information, including scope, dates, and commitments.
• Positive feedback from customers and delivery teams on technical and commercial coordination.
